BEARINGS & TRANSMISSIONS.

ALWAYS BEARING YOU IN MIND.

No matter the application or brand you require, we’ll bear it all in mind and find the part that keeps you moving.

Bearings and Transmissions

LET’S HELP YOU FIND YOUR BEARINGS.

As a supplier of all types of bearings we feel it’s important to share our knowledge about what they are, they’re uses and ultimately help you get your bearings (in both senses of the word).
Prevention of metal to metal contact is the main purpose of bearings, this prevention helps to reduce heat generation but more importantly wear and tear but this isn’t their only function. Bearings also help to transfer motion, supporting and guiding components that turn relatively to each other.

There are many different types of bearings and they are all used for different purposes and applications. If you need advice or already know what you need, get in touch and the team will support you in supplying the bearings that are right for you.

Bearings

ROTARY VS. LINEAR

Before we look at the difference, what is a rotary bearing? First things first, a rotary bearing is a part used to allow rotation of other moving parts, they allow the surface to slide over a shaft, reducing friction. Rotary bearings have inner and outer surfaces with either rollers or metal balls between them. Ball bearings are a type of rotary bearing and have round balls to separate the two races, the small contact area significantly reduces friction making them the perfect partner for high-speed applications. Another type of rotary bearing is the roller bearing, instead of balls they have rollers between the races and are great at handling large loads. Different types of roller bearings include tapered roller bearings and needle roller bearings, both help to improve load distribution.

Unlike rotary bearings, linear bearings move on a static guideway or shaft instead of moveable components. They are specifically designed to allow motion in one direction and are typically used to carry a load on a slide or rail. Linear bearings are both resistant to contamination and shock, they also have low wear and are relatively quiet. Different types of linear bearings include: sliding bushes, linear ball bushing bearings and linear guided systems.

Transmissions
